AA Kenya hosted its first-ever Road Safety Excellence Awards in Nairobi, recognizing organizations, institutions, and individuals who have shown outstanding leadership and innovation in advancing road safety across the country.
The awards ceremony, attended by senior government officials including Principal Secretary for Sports Elijah Mwangi, NTSA Director General George Njao, and traffic police leaders, brought together key road safety stakeholders and grassroots advocates.
AA Kenya Managing Director Francis Theuri explained that the awards were designed to recognize the impact behind road safety data. “Behind every statistic are efforts worth celebrating and lessons worth sharing. This platform helps us exchange ideas and foster a stronger safety culture,” he said.
The awards featured a wide range of categories such as Driver Safety & Wellness, Road Safety Innovation, Community Engagement, Insurance Company of the Year, and Motor Financier of the Year. Notably, a dedicated category was introduced for EV Adoption Champion, reflecting Kenya’s growing focus on electric mobility as part of sustainable and safer transport solutions.
Among the honorees were Moja EV, SPIRO, and City E-Mobility Bodaboda Sacco, recognized for their contributions to clean mobility and safer electric transport options. Their inclusion highlighted the growing role of EVs in shaping Kenya’s future road safety landscape.
Other winners included Sikika Road Safety, Isuzu Drivers Academy, GA Insurance, Kenya Red Cross, Lions SightFirst, and Royal Media Services. Individual champions such as Engineer Mary Abungu, Kevin Mubadi of the Bodaboda Association of Kenya, and Paul Karuga Njuguna of the Road Safety Awareness Initiative also received recognition.
Traffic Base Commanders from the National Police Service, including Kennedy Njuguna and Erastus Maraka, were celebrated for enforcing road safety measures that have reduced accidents in their jurisdictions.
